Loft Design Ideas For The Home

loft design ideas 300x199 Loft Design Ideas For The HomeIf you are someone who has a loft area in your home, you may not know exactly what to do with it. Too often, people decide that their lofts should merely be storage spaces, something which is very common if they have enough bedrooms for their household. The truth of the matter is that a loft can be a wonderfully integral part of your home. Simply take the time to learn what designs go best with this enchanting space.

First, consider the loft’s paint. Many people simply leave the loft as it is, either in raw wood or with an undistinguished coat of white paint. A loft can benefit from a brightly-colored paint, especially if you stick with something on the lighter end of the spectrum. While you should avoid very dim colors if the loft has no natural light, you will discover that a bright color makes the loft significantly more entertaining and more visually appealing. For example, consider a bright sky blue or even a glowing peach for this space.

Remember that it should be easily accessible. If you have been going up the same old ladder for ages, you will find that it is hard to muster up any interest in this space. The more accessible a space is, the more likely it is that you will use it. Purchase a sturdy ladder that can be safely anchored to the loft and which has wide steps. This is a good way to make sure that your loft gets used.

Determine a function for the loft and furnish accordingly. What are you going to use your loft for? Some people decide that their lofts should be their libraries or their reading nooks. While you can put your books up there, don’t forget to put in a great light source as well as a cozy place to sit. If you are planning to make it a guest bedroom, consider making sure that you have furnishings like a set of drawers and a bedside table up there as well as a bed. The cozier and more functional you can make your loft, the more you will enjoy being in it.

Think about the lighting. Too many lofts are lit by a single lamp, something that leaves the entire area feeling cramped and dim. One easy step towards improving the light situation in a loft is to choose CFL bulbs, especially ones which are rated for daylight intensities. Several sources of light from various places in the loft can help you bright things up, as can track lighting.

Consider the texture of your loft. Plenty of people think that bare is best when it comes to their loft, but nothing could be further from the truth. If you want to make sure that your loft is a welcome place, put some rugs on the floor, put up some window hangings, and hang some fabric or other touchable decoration on the walls or ceilings. A room that has texture is one that is significantly more welcoming than one that is simply scrubbed clean and plain.

A loft is a wonderful thing to have, so make sure that you make the most of it. Look around your own loft and think about how you can really use the space. If you don’t spend time in your loft, ask yourself why, and fix it!

finished look. This investment is always worth it because the bathroom is used every day.
